A Coruña Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Woman in Domestic Violence Incident

The National Police investigate a suspected gender-based murder in the Sagrada Familia neighborhood.
On June 15, 2025, a 61-year-old man was arrested by the National Police in A Coruña, Spain, in connection with the alleged murder of a 49-year-old woman in a domestic setting.

The incident occurred in the Sagrada Familia neighborhood early in the morning, and the suspect was detained at the scene of the crime.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the event and clarifying the relationship between the arrested individual and the victim.

The initial assessment by law enforcement suggests a potential case of gender-based violence.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the victim had previously filed complaints against the alleged perpetrator, who was registered in the VioGén system, a national database that tracks cases of gender violence in Spain.

Reportedly, the suspect informed a family member about the attack, claiming he had assaulted the victim with a knife.

This family member subsequently contacted emergency services at 6:59 AM, prompting immediate responses from medical and police personnel.

Emergency medical responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and the police arrested the suspect without delay.

The Government Delegation against Gender Violence issued a statement via social media regarding the incident, confirming the ongoing investigation into the case as a suspected act of gender-based violence.

In reaction to the crime, A Coruña's mayor, Inés Rey, expressed her profound shock and strong condemnation of the act in an official statement on social media, extending her condolences to the victim's family.

She underscored the broader societal responsibility in addressing and eradicating machismo.

Victims of gender-based violence are encouraged to seek help through various resources, including a 24-hour helpline (016), which is available in 53 languages, and through email and WhatsApp services.

In emergency situations, individuals are advised to contact the 112 emergency services or the Police and Civil Guard directly using their respective emergency numbers.
