Chaplain of La Moraleja School Faces Multiple Allegations of Child Assault

The 58-year-old priest has been arrested following five reported cases of sexual aggression against minors at the Highlands El Encinar school in Madrid.
The chaplain of Highlands El Encinar school in La Moraleja, Madrid, has been implicated in five allegations of sexual assault against minors.

The school director disclosed this information in a letter sent to parents on Friday evening after the priest was detained on Thursday at 8 PM. The allegations began with a report from the family of a six-year-old girl, with additional accusations arising within a 24-hour timeframe.

According to the school’s latest communication, the chaplain, who has contacted his superior to inform that he has been released, will remain suspended from his duties and will not be allowed to communicate with families.

The 58-year-old priest was apprehended by the Family and Women’s Attention Unit (UFAM) of the Provincial Police Brigade of Madrid, which is currently gathering information and taking statements from potential victims.

As of Saturday evening, the priest has been placed at the disposal of judicial authorities.

Police representatives conducted interviews with the school director and requested necessary information for ongoing investigations on Friday afternoon.

In the missive, Jesus María Delgado, the school director, emphasized that the chaplain, who has been responsible for primary and secondary girls, has been serving in this capacity since 2023, following the reassignment of another colleague.

Delgado categorically stated that there are no prior sexual assault offenses on the chaplain's record, asserting “a resounding NO” to any suggestions otherwise.

He indicated that all personnel, including priests, are required to present an annual certificate from the Ministry of Justice confirming no criminal background related to sexual offenses as a condition of employment.

The rapid emergence of five reports within a short time frame suggests the potential for additional accusations, which have not been ruled out.

Delgado plans to address the situation with the parents on the following Monday, underscoring the importance of conveying this information to students in an age-appropriate manner.

Highlands School El Encinar, established in 1999, serves over 1,300 students and 700 families.

The institution is described on its official website as a private, Catholic, trilingual school located in La Moraleja, aiming to provide comprehensive education to students aged 1 to 18, with an emphasis on academic excellence and personal growth.
