Opposition Criticizes Ayuso's Performance at the Conference of Presidents

Political leaders from Vox, PSOE, and Más Madrid express discontent with Isabel Díaz Ayuso's conduct during the recent meeting.
Political leaders from the opposition, including representatives from Vox, the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), and Más Madrid, have voiced their criticisms of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the President of the Community of Madrid, following her participation in the recent Conference of Presidents.

The meeting, which took place on Friday, has been characterized by opposition figures as an opportunity for Ayuso to showcase her political ambitions rather than engage substantively with pressing issues.

During a press briefing after the meeting of parliamentary spokespersons, Mar Espinar, a spokesperson for PSOE, described Ayuso's actions as detrimental to the spirit of the conference.

She stated that Ayuso "disrupted the Conference of Presidents with her childish need to be the center of attention." Espinar further lamented that discussions surrounding Ayuso's behavior overshadowed more significant conversations, such as those related to housing, indicating that residents of Madrid deserve a leader focused on critical issues rather than self-promotion.

Espinar even suggested that Ayuso might consider creating a reality show titled "The Mafia of the Attic," underscoring her concerns about Ayuso's priorities.

This jab at Ayuso's conduct serves to emphasize the discontent among opposition parties regarding her leadership style.

Manuela Bergerot of Más Madrid also articulated her disapproval, referring to Ayuso's behavior as "ridiculous" and an embarrassment for Madrileños in front of the rest of Spain.

Bergerot pointed out that the PSOE has submitted a formal request for Ayuso to explain her role and the decisions made during the Conference of Presidents, especially regarding her rejection of Government investment in housing initiatives.

Isabel Pérez Moñino, spokesperson for Vox, described Ayuso’s conduct as a "political spectacle" and criticized the Partido Popular (PP) for rallying protests against the government while its leaders spoke with "the mafia" in Barcelona.

She expressed skepticism about Ayuso's commitment to her cause, suggesting that true opposition to the use of translation devices, referred to as "pinganillos," would require her to confront her own party's positions in the Senate.

The ongoing tensions between Ayuso and various opposition factions highlight the divisions within Spanish politics, particularly concerning issues that affect communities and governance in regional contexts.
