Pedro Sánchez Celebrates Seven Years in Government Amidst Milestones and Challenges

The Spanish Prime Minister reflects on his tenure that began with a historic motion of no confidence against Mariano Rajoy.
On June 2, 2025, Pedro Sánchez marked seven years in office as the Prime Minister of Spain, a tenure that began following a successful motion of no confidence against the then-government led by Mariano Rajoy.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, Sánchez highlighted that he continues to approach his role 'with the same enthusiasm and energy' as on the first day of his administration.

The message referenced visuals from Sánchez's first official promise to assume his role in front of King Felipe VI, which took place on June 2, 2018, just after the no-confidence vote was approved.

In his statement, Sánchez asserted that these seven years have been characterized by 'progressive governance' and advancements across various sectors, including economic growth, job creation, democratic renewal, international projection, environmental commitment, and social progress.

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), the political party of Sánchez, also commemorated the occasion with a message on the same platform.

The PSOE emphasized that during these years, the government has made 'bold decisions' that have transformed Spain and improved the lives of its citizens, positioning the nation at the forefront of global challenges.

The no-confidence motion that enabled Sánchez to assume the presidency received support from a coalition of parties, including Unidas Podemos, ERC, PDECAT, PNV, Compromís, EH Bildu, and Nueva Canarias.

Following the general elections in 2019 and 2023, Sánchez and the PSOE managed to remain in power by forming coalition agreements with Unidas Podemos and Sumar.

As Sánchez celebrated his milestone, the PSOE reiterated its commitment to continuing the transformative agenda under his leadership, citing 'courage, responsibility, and coherence' as guiding principles for the future.
