PP and Vox Reach Agreement in Baleares for 2025 Budget Approval

PP and Vox Reach Agreement in Baleares for 2025 Budget Approval

Following a previous budget extension due to a lack of consensus, the regional government has finalized negotiations.
The Balearic government, led by the People's Party (PP) in coalition with Vox, has reached an agreement to approve the regional budget for 2025. This development comes after the previous budget for 2024 was extended due to difficulties in negotiations between the two right-wing parties.

Marga Prohens, the president of the Balearic executive, alongside Antoni Costa, the regional minister of finance, is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10 AM today at the Consolat de Mar to provide details on the agreement following a meeting of the Consell de Govern.

The recent agreement was achieved after weeks of negotiations during which the PP, lacking a majority in the regional parliament, worked to secure pacts with Vox.

These negotiations have resulted in mutual agreements on legislative initiatives related to tourism, housing, and the knowledge of Catalan, which will guide the regional administration’s efforts.

Previously, PP and Vox had established a governance agreement at the beginning of the legislative term.

However, Vox withdrew from this agreement in July of the previous year, destabilizing their coalition in the autonomous communities where they had been governing together.

This withdrawal led to a notable distancing in Baleares, hampering the approval of the PP's budget draft for 2025. In a separate action, Vox had previously abstained from voting, which allowed the approval of the spending ceiling for this year’s budget amounting to €6.562 billion, which will now form the basis for the upcoming budget proposal.

The agreement announced today will also result in the extension of the ordinary session period of the Parliament to facilitate the processing of the budget law project.
