On Monday, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez attended a ceremony in Pino Montano, a popular neighborhood in Sevilla, marking the commencement of construction for a new Metro line.

As he delivered his remarks, he encountered protests from residents on both sides of the event venue, which was marked by a large tent.

Sánchez faced incessant boos and shouts of '¡FUERA, FUERA!' from a group of protesters situated to his left, who demonstrated their displeasure throughout his speech.

Conversely, a crowd on his right exhibited a mixed response; while initial reactions included jeers, some attendees sporadically chanted 'presidente, presidente' as Sánchez attempted to highlight government contributions to Sevilla and Andalucía.

After the event at Pino Montano, Sánchez then visited Dos Hermanas, where he inspected social housing projects.

Here, he was also met with protests, prompting him to ask for quiet at the start of his address.

'A VER, ESCUCHADME, QUE TENGO COSAS QUE DECIR,' he stated as the crowd continued to voice their discontent.

The protests had begun well before the ceremony commenced, as a significant number of residents took their places behind security barriers an hour prior to the arrival of local officials.

Noteworthy attendees included Sevilla's mayor, José Luis Sanz; the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno; and various local council members, among others.

Initial demonstrations from residents targeted local waste management issues, directed primarily at the city’s mayor.

Responses towards Juanma Moreno, the regional president, were less intense.

However, when Sánchez took the stage, the volume of discontent escalated significantly, disrupting his speech despite attempts to maintain communication with the audience.

The ongoing protests during an institutional event drew attention to the broader public grievances regarding local governance and public services in the region.
