Carlos Martínez, the Secretary General of the Socialist Party (PSOE) in Castilla y León, recently addressed the media ahead of the Debate on General Politics scheduled in the Cortes of Castilla y León. Although Martínez, who serves as the Mayor of Soria and not as an elected assembly member, will not participate directly in the debate, he has been actively involved in preparing the Socialist message to be presented by the party spokesperson, Luis Tudanca.

This marks Tudanca's last appearance in this role, and he is set to present thirty resolutions addressing the needs of various provinces in Castilla y León.

Martínez has highlighted what he describes as the 'flatline' status of the region's economy, noting that growth, employment, and housing data have shown increases that fall below the national average.

He pointed out that with only 18 months left for the implementation of European funds aimed at regional development, the government has managed to spend only 31 million euros, which accounts for merely 6.4 percent of the total allocated funds.

This has led him to call for a strategic planning approach and the necessity of engaging both major political groups, the PP and PSOE, to reach substantial agreements.

The secretary general outlined three possible courses of action for the remaining year of the current legislative period: correcting the direction of governance through cross-party consensus, altering public policies, or calling for elections.

Martínez stressed the urgency of action, stating that inaction while other regions progress is unacceptable.

He also asserted that the fragmentation within the parliamentary landscape necessitates the formation of significant political consensus, which could potentially include reducing the influence of other parties such as Vox.

Martínez's call for dialogue reflects a growing concern for the political and economic stability of Castilla y León as the region navigates its future.
