Elections Announced at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia Following Leadership Crisis

Marisa Arlandis calls for extraordinary assembly amid significant resignations from the board.
The Real Club Náutico de Valencia (RCNV) has announced that it will hold elections to appoint a new board after a series of resignations has undermined the current leadership.

President Marisa Arlandis sent a notification to members on Friday, convening an extraordinary assembly scheduled for June 14. The assembly aims to establish a managing committee and initiate an electoral process to select a new governing body within three months.

This development comes as the managing entity of the sporting marina, located south of the Port of Valencia, has decided to expedite the election timeline by six months, effectively terminating the mandate of the existing leadership team.

The decision stems from the recent departure of approximately ten board members citing disagreements with the president, including Vice President Manuel Setién and Commodore Andrés Arlandis, alongside board members Miguel Contreras, José María Escudero, and Juanjo Martínez.

According to club regulations, Article 40 mandates the calling of elections when more than 50% of the board resigns.

In recent days, the resignations have intensified, prompting the current leadership crisis.

In an attempt to manage the ongoing situation, Arlandis has also slated an ordinary assembly on the same day as the extraordinary one to address these vacancies and influence the managing committee that will oversee the electoral process.

Critics within the club have expressed concerns that this move may violate internal regulations, as it occurs after the conditions for automatic dissolution have been triggered.

The RCNV, which boasts nearly 1,500 members, manages a budget approximating ten million euros and employs around a hundred staff members.

It serves as a recreational hub for sailing enthusiasts and affluent families from Valencia and beyond, including regions like Madrid.

The club is known for organizing the Trofeo de SM La Reina, one of Spain's premier sailing events.

Previously, it was in contention to host the sailing qualifying competition for the Los Angeles Olympics but withdrew after negotiations fell through over economic disputes.

The club faces a critical upcoming term, as it must negotiate with the Valencia Port Authority for a potential 25-year extension of its recreational concession, which is set to expire in 2030. Arlandis has proposed to include a decision regarding the request for this extension on the agenda for the extraordinary assembly, with indications that the Port Authority, led by Mar Chao, will require new investments and improvement commitments for the facilities.

The authority retains discretionary power over the concession and could choose not to renew it, potentially opening a new bidding process.

This situation unfolds against the backdrop of an existing conflict between RCNV and its primary sub-lessee, Valencia Mar, owned by Corinna Graf, which also manages Puerto Portals in Mallorca.

The two entities are embroiled in legal disputes over contractual terms and economic claims.

As the election draws near, movement among the membership is already evident, with various individuals likely to put forward candidacies for the upcoming process.

Potential candidates include current President Marisa Arlandis, former Commodore Andrés Arlandis (not related), former Vice President Manuel Setién, and speculation surrounding Luis Ibáñez, ex-director general of Interior for the Generalitat, as well as businessman Luis Serneguet.
