Movistar Implements Price Increases Amid Rising Content Costs

Telefónica's Movistar adjusts tariffs effective January 13, citing higher sector costs and increased fees from major television content providers.
Telefónica’s subsidiary, Movistar, has enacted a price increase for its services, effective Monday, January 13. The Spanish telecommunications giant attributes the changes to widespread cost increases within the sector, particularly fees charged by key television content providers.

While the revised tariffs vary, the majority of these increases remain under six euros, with the most common adjustment being three euros.

Importantly, the new pricing structure does not affect current promotional offers.

Customers currently benefiting from such promotions will continue to enjoy these terms until the promotional period concludes, as confirmed by the company and reported by EFE news agency sources.

The increase notably impacts bundles that include television services, reflecting the rise in content licensing fees.

Among the adjustments, MOVISTAR PLUS+ will see a monthly increase from 12 to 13 euros.

For additional telephone lines, the UNLIMITED BASE line will rise slightly from 7.90 to 8 euros per month.

Fixed internet service costs will also see escalations: MOVISTAR SOLO FIBRA 300 MBPS will jump from 31.90 to 34 euros monthly, with MIMOVISTAR BASE increasing from 52.90 to 53 euros, and MIMOVISTAR MAX rising from 59.90 to 63 euros per month.

For bundled television services, adding Netflix will cost more, with the standard plan moving from 12 to 13.99 euros and the premium plan advancing from 17 to 19.99 euros per month.

Packages like FICTION TOTAL will now be priced at 17.01 euros, an increase from 14 euros, while the TOTAL FOOTBALL package will increase to 49 euros from its previous price of 45 euros monthly.

Telefónica underscores its commitment to delivering fast and reliable fiber and 5G network services, justifying the necessity for these price hikes with the substantial investments required to maintain and improve these capabilities.
