Spain's Weather Woes: Managing Unstable Conditions through the Weekend

Heavy Rains and Snow Expected with Rising Temperatures Across the Peninsula
Spain is set to grapple with continued unstable weather conditions over the weekend, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Most of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands will experience significant cloud cover and likely light precipitation, particularly in the southern half, northeastern third, and Mediterranean areas, anticipates Europa Press.

Forecasts predict more intense rainfall, potentially severe, accompanied by thunderstorms in northeastern Catalonia, Alboran, and the southeastern coastal regions.

Concurrently, light snowfalls are expected in areas such as the Central System, southern Iberian ranges, southeastern mountains, and notably in the Pyrenees, where significant accumulations could occur early in the day.

The snowline is expected to fluctuate between 1,200 and 1,600 meters above sea level.

As the day progresses, a general reduction in precipitation is anticipated, with clearer skies expanding, although western Galicia remains an exception with persistent rains.

Meanwhile, the Canary Islands are forecasted to have cloudy skies with potential for brief showers in mountainous areas, and cloudy intervals elsewhere.

Additionally, there is a likelihood of morning mist and fog in mountainous and eastern interior regions.

Temperature-wise, AEMET forecasts an increase in maximum temperatures in the eastern and southern thirds of the peninsula, with overall temperatures mostly steady elsewhere.

Minimum temperatures are expected to rise in the archipelagos and the western extremity of the peninsula but are expected to fall otherwise.

Frosts will continue to impact much of northern inland areas and southeastern mountain locales, with potential local severity in northern mountainous zones.

Provinces predicted to experience the lowest temperatures include León at -3°C, and Burgos, Lugo, Palencia, Salamanca, and Soria at -2°C, with Ávila, Segovia, Valladolid, and Zamora following closely at -1°C.

Finally, moderate northerly and northeasterly winds are expected in the northern half of the Mediterranean area, with variable light winds mainly from the east and south elsewhere, trending towards a westerly component throughout the day.

In the Canaries, eastern and southeastern winds will start light but are expected to strengthen.
