CEO leaves for personal reasons, following significant achievements in sales and profitability.
Wayne Griffiths has announced his departure from his roles as CEO of Seat and Cupra, effective immediately.
Griffiths, who had been in the position since 2020, succeeded Luca de Meo and has played a pivotal role in steering the brands through the challenges posed by the global
coronavirus pandemic.
During his tenure, Griffiths implemented strategies that resulted in a notable increase in sales and improved financial stability for the brands.
Under his leadership, Seat and Cupra reported an operational profit of 633 million euros, a 1.28% increase compared to the previous year.
This performance highlights the recovery and resilience of the brands within the Volkswagen Group framework.
In 2023, Seat and Cupra achieved a remarkable sales milestone, registering a total of 637,000 units sold, marking a 5.8% increase from the previous year.
This growth positioned them as the brands with the highest sales increase within the Volkswagen Group.
Griffiths' departure follows his resignation from the presidency of the Asociación Española de Fabricantes de Automóviles y Camiones (ANFAC) earlier in June, further indicating a shift in his professional commitments.
According to reports, the company is in the process of identifying a successor, with indications that the next leader may be appointed from within its ranks.
This potential internal appointment aligns with industry practices aimed at maintaining continuity in leadership.
Further details regarding the transition and potential candidates for the position are expected to emerge in the coming days.
