Gibraltar's Isidoro M. 'El Doro' Arrested Again in Money Laundering Operation

Isidoro M., known as 'El Doro', faces new charges of money laundering connecting to drug trafficking activities.
Isidoro M., commonly known as 'El Doro', has once again been implicated in illegal activities following his arrest as part of Operation Sabila.

This latest operation, which also led to the detention of three other individuals, follows his previous arrest in November 2021 during Operation Talofita, where he was accused of laundering at least three million euros derived from marijuana trafficking.

In the recent developments, law enforcement agencies, including the Guardia Civil, have uncovered substantial evidence linking El Doro to a criminal organization purportedly involved in laundering at least 2.5 million euros from narcotics.

After his arrest, sources confirmed that El Doro has been released.

Central to the new investigation is the allegedly fraudulent purchase of a property with navigable access to the San Pedro River in Puerto Real.

Authorities revealed that El Doro had acquired the land for one million euros, in addition to providing an extra 300,000 euros in cash.

Investigators further suspect that nominee owners, or 'testaferros', were involved in this transaction, identifying the former owners as a couple from Colombia with prior convictions related to drug trafficking and money laundering.

Isidoro M., 47, had gained notoriety previously for concealing marijuana plantations as CBD crops.

His involvement with narcotics dates back several decades, with initial connections to hashish trafficking from Morocco.

He is the son-in-law of a notable local drug trafficker known as El Acuático.

Over the years, he has accumulated numerous police records, convictions, and prison sentences since 1995. Following a period of nearly two years in provisional detention related to Operation Talofita, he was released in early 2023.

In connection with the ongoing investigation, authorities have seized assets and cash totaling 2.5 million euros, including real estate in Cádiz and Sevilla, three vehicles, and a safe deposit box containing 790,000 euros and 35,900 dollars.

Additionally, the investigation has expanded to include three corporate entities that are also being scrutinized for possible involvement.

The ongoing inquiries are being overseen by the Court of Instruction Number 3 in Sanlúcar, which previously handled the Talofita case.

In that operation, El Doro's wife and daughter were among the eleven individuals detained.

Allegations have also surfaced suggesting that El Doro benefitted from a corrupt scheme within the Puerto III prison, where officials reportedly charged between 9,000 to 15,000 euros for access to favorable privileges.

He purportedly received leniency by claiming an aversion to confinement, leading to evaluations by a private psychologist instead of institutional staff.

El Doro ostensibly utilized the proceeds from his illicit activities to support an extravagant lifestyle, which included owning a luxurious modern villa in Monte Algaida, a region frequented by local drug traffickers.

Much of his profits were also invested in the local football club, UD Algaida, which he purchased in 2017. A year later, he unveiled renovations to the club's stadium, which he renamed in his honor, drawing parallels to the former practices of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escolar.
