Indra Collaborates with Rheinmetall on Development of Armored Vehicles

Spanish multinational Indra and German defense giant Rheinmetall strengthen their partnership to enhance European defense capabilities.
Spanish multinational Indra has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rheinmetall Landsysteme, a subsidiary of German defense giant Rheinmetall AG, to establish a strategic cooperation focused on the development of armored vehicles for the Spanish Armed Forces.

This agreement was announced during the International Defence and Security Fair in Spain (Feindef).

Indra’s President, Ángel Escribano, has characterized the agreement as a significant example of what can be achieved through European collaboration.

The partnership not only aims to fortify the existing alliance between Indra and Rheinmetall, which includes a recent collaboration on the combat system for the LEOPARD 2E tank, but also marks a pivotal moment in Indra's strategy to advance manufacturing and digitization capabilities for military vehicles in Spain.

Rheinmetall is recognized as one of the leading global suppliers of armored vehicles, both tracked and wheeled, and possesses extensive knowledge in the design, manufacturing, and support of these systems.

The collaboration underscores a shared commitment to enhancing defense capabilities amid increasing global security challenges.

In addition to the partnership with Rheinmetall, Indra has entered into another MoU with Submarine Technologies SAES, focusing on infrastructure protection, acoustic systems, and simulation technologies.

Escribano noted that this initiative reflects Indra's dedication to fostering collaboration within the Spanish defense industry to develop cutting-edge solutions that ensure the strategic sovereignty and autonomy of the Armed Forces and their allies.

The agreements come at a time when there is a heightened imperative to secure access to navigable routes, protect communication and energy infrastructures at sea, and ensure the security of ports.

Furthermore, they are designed to support the Spanish Navy in achieving its Vision 2050, which emphasizes maintaining a technologically advanced fleet to adapt to an increasingly complex and volatile global environment.
