The Comunidad de Madrid plans to sue Ione Belarra over allegations of 'homicidal management' during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Comunidad de Madrid, led by President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is set to file a lawsuit against Ione Belarra, the Secretary General of Podemos.
This action follows Belarra's recent statement asserting that the regional government exhibited a "homicidal management" during the
coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement was made by Miguel Ángel García, the Regional Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Local Administration, during a visit to Alameda del Valle, where he assessed the impacts of the recent storm, Jana.
García emphasized that Belarra's statements implicate the regional government in criminal conduct and suggested that there were intentional malpractices during the
COVID-19 crisis.
He confirmed that legal services are currently working on the appropriate legal actions to be presented before the corresponding judicial authority.
"Such declarations cannot go unpunished; they attempt to twist the pain of victims and their families," he stated.
The regional government's spokesperson also demanded that Belarra retract her statement, warning that failure to do so would necessitate legal proceedings.
"We will not allow Ione Belarra to make such statements that insult the people of Madrid, the professionals who gave their all during the pandemic, and the government of the Comunidad de Madrid," he asserted.
In addition, the Madrid government announced plans to initiate another lawsuit against Reyes Maroto, the Socialist spokesperson at Madrid City Hall.
This lawsuit is in response to Maroto's "despicable" comments, which accuse the Madrid executive of responsibility for the deaths of elderly individuals in care homes during the pandemic.
García criticized such accusations, stating, "In politics, everything is not permissible; one cannot accuse a government that did everything during the pandemic of committing murders.
This is a true outrage." He noted that the Madrid executive has not received any formal retraction from Maroto and remarked that her comments crossed every line of political decency.
