Severe weather has prompted a state of emergency in several regions of Spain as heavy rains from the storm system known as Martinho continue to impact the country.

In Talavera de la Reina, the Tajo River has reached a flow rate of 1,000 cubic meters per second, a record level that has raised concerns about flooding.

Milagros Tolón, the Government Delegate in the area, emphasized the necessity of monitoring the situation closely and prioritized ensuring the safety of citizens.

José Julián Gregorio, the mayor of Talavera, has urged residents to exercise caution, particularly advising against approaching flood-prone areas due to significant discharge from upstream reservoirs.

Currently, 25 reservoirs in the Tajo demarcation across the provinces of Guadalajara, Madrid, Toledo, and Cáceres have exceeded the red alert threshold due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

Although the storm's intensity has decreased somewhat, persistent rainfall in already saturated areas continues to pose potential flooding risks.

The red-level warnings indicate extremely dangerous hydrological conditions that could lead to flooding in populated areas and disruptions to key communication routes.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated its alerts, with orange warnings in effect for Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia, and the Basque Country.

In Asturias and Cantabria, wind speeds have surpassed 50 km/h, with maximum gusts recorded at 74 km/h. Coastal alerts indicate wave heights may reach six meters in some areas.

Meanwhile, Civil Protection has downgraded avalanche warnings in the Pyrenees from level 4 to level 3, asking for extreme precaution due to strong winds that have been recorded at 165 km/h in high-altitude areas of the region.

In Andalucía, yellow-level warnings remain in effect in regions like Jaén due to wind, alongside alerts for wave conditions in Almería and Granada, where gusts may reach 70 km/h.

In Segovia, red alerts for the Eresma River have prompted ongoing concerns, with current flow rates at 31.28 cubic meters per second.

The area remains under close observation, though no immediate complications have been reported despite heavy rains affecting 14 autonomous communities across the country.

The Madrid City Council has stated that no extraordinary measures will be implemented for the time being, maintaining that current conditions remain stable but warning residents to avoid proximity to the Manzanares and Jarama rivers.

The emergency response in Toledo has seen over 100 individuals evacuated from their homes due to flooding from the Alberche River, with additional municipalities receiving alerts for potential inundation.

The emergency messaging system has been activated in several areas along the Tajo and Alberche rivers.

Furthermore, the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert status in anticipation of strong winds exceeding 80 km/h across the archipelago, effective from 18:00 hours on Saturday.

Local authorities have called for continued vigilance as several regions face ongoing weather advisories, with warnings regarding high winds, heavy rainfall, and snowfall in various parts of the country.
