Spanish Military Salaries to Increase in 2025 Following Government's Announcement

Spanish Military Salaries to Increase in 2025 Following Government's Announcement

Public sector salary hike to affect military personnel starting January 2025.
The Spanish government has confirmed a salary increase for public sector employees, including military personnel, effective from January 1, 2025. This increase follows a previous salary adjustment in June of the previous year.

The adjustment aims to compensate for cumulative inflation over the past three years, as agreed upon with unions in 2022, in order to maintain purchasing power.

The existing financial structure of the Spanish military is as follows.

Personnel are categorized mainly by their roles into different classifications—A1, A2, C1, and C2—each with distinct salary scales.

In 2024, salaries for the A1 category ranged from €59,683 annually for a General of the Army to €30,232 for a Lieutenant or Ensign.

For category A2, salaries varied from €27,868 for an Ensign to €24,782 for a Sergeant.

Salaries in category C1 ranged from €21,916 for a Sergeant Major to €17,927 for a Permanent Soldier or Sailor, while category C2's salaries ranged from €18,800 for a Temporary First Corporal to €16,268 for a Temporary Soldier or Sailor.

For 2025, the increase follows the December 2024 inflation data, authorizing a retroactive salary increase of 0.5% from January 1, 2025. The accumulated inflation from 2022 to 2024, which exceeded 8%, necessitates this adjustment.

The aim, stated in the Framework Agreement of 2022 between the government and unions, is to mitigate the loss of purchasing power among affected citizens.

The salary increments for 2025 are as follows: Group A1 will receive an approximate annual increase of €150 (an additional €12.5 monthly), Group A2 will have an increase of about €130 annually (€10 monthly), Group C1 an increase of approximately €95 annually (€7.9 monthly), and Group C2 will see around an €80 increase annually (€6.6 monthly).

In addition to base salaries, military personnel receive various allowances.

These include an employment allowance based on rank responsibility, an allowance specific to certain roles determined by their hierarchy or conditions such as danger or dedication, a special dedication allowance for extraordinary activities like international missions, and extraordinary service payments for work outside normal hours.

Other allowances may cover clothing, residency, family benefits, rewards, or compensation for injuries as specified by current legislation.
