Tax Campaign 2024: Key Dates and New Features for Spanish Taxpayers

Tax Campaign 2024: Key Dates and New Features for Spanish Taxpayers

The Agencia Tributaria announces critical dates and updated services for the 2024 income tax declaration process.
The 2024 Income Tax Campaign in Spain is officially underway, with taxpayers alerted to significant upcoming dates crucial for their financial planning.

One key date is March 19, 2024, when individuals will have access to their fiscal data.

This information is essential for those who wish to review their tax situation in advance, allowing for better preparation and avoidance of last-minute complications.

As in previous years, the Agencia Tributaria aims to facilitate timely access for citizens to allow for adequate planning.

Starting on March 19, 2024, taxpayers will be able to review their fiscal data pertaining to the 2024 tax period through the Agencia Tributaria's electronic headquarters.

Access is available using a reference number, Cl@ve PIN, or digital certificate.

This early access empowers taxpayers to ensure that all information provided by the administration is accurate prior to filing their tax returns.

The official start of the Income Tax Campaign is set for April 3, 2024, when the window for submitting online tax declarations will open.

This period will extend until June 30, 2025, offering various avenues for filing.

From May 6, taxpayers will have the option to prepare their declarations through a telephone assistance service, with appointments available to book from April 29 to June 27.

For those who prefer in-person support, the Agencia Tributaria will provide this service between June 2 and June 30, 2024. Appointments for personal assistance can be booked from May 29 through June 27, enabling citizens to receive direct help in preparing their tax returns.

Taxpayers who opt for bank direct debit for their payments must ensure their declarations are submitted by June 25 to avoid payment issues.

This year introduces several new features, including the ability to make tax payments through BIZUM, in addition to options for bank direct debit, account charges, or payments made in banks with the Complete Reference Number (NRC).

This addition aims to simplify payment processes and modernize the options for taxpayers.

Self-employed individuals remain required to submit tax declarations irrespective of their income levels, a policy carried over from the previous year.

Beneficiaries of the Minimum Vital Income (Ingreso Mínimo Vital, IMV) are also required to file their declarations, while those receiving unemployment benefits are not obliged to do so this year, differing from initial expectations.

Another significant update from the Agencia Tributaria is the implementation of a single system for correcting self-assessments.

This new framework will allow taxpayers to rectify, complete, or modify a previously submitted declaration without waiting for an administrative resolution, thereby streamlining the process and easing necessary amendments.

The Agencia Tributaria encourages taxpayers to review their fiscal data as soon as it becomes available to prevent issues and verify that the information provided by the tax authority aligns with each individual's financial reality.
