Two firefighters from Alcorcón have died while responding to a fire caused by an accident involving an electric vehicle in a garage located at Lilos Street, number 6 Bis, on April 2, 2025. This incident, which occurred around 15:40 local time, resulted in a total of 14 injuries, with one firefighter in critical condition after being transported to the Burns Unit at the Getafe Hospital.

According to emergency services, the fire broke out after a resident of the building accidentally crashed their electric vehicle into another car while trying to park.

The impact ignited the vehicle, subsequently spreading flames to nearby cars and generating significant smoke.

Reports indicate that a loud noise, likely the result of the collision, alerted workers in the vicinity who attempted to rescue the driver and their partner.

Approximately 45 minutes after the incident began, residents of the building were instructed to stay inside as a precaution.

Emergency services and police were unable to enter the garage initially due to the dangerous circumstances.

The area has since been cordoned off for safety as the investigation began.

The driver of the electric vehicle, who reportedly had mobility issues due to a prior medical condition, endured injuries from the accident but is not in life-threatening danger.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the sequence of events leading up to the fire.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the electric vehicle might have played a role in the fire, but this is yet to be confirmed.

The firefighting personnel involved in extinguishing the blaze faced severe conditions due to heavy smoke inhalation.

One firefighter tragically succumbed inside the parking structure, while another, who managed to escape, later died from smoke toxicity.

The third injured firefighter remains in critical condition.

Emergency medical responders treated additional individuals for mild smoke inhalation as they worked to manage the crisis.

Fire crews from the Community of Madrid, alongside local Alcorcón units, attended the scene.

Officials from the national, regional, and municipal governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

"We deeply regret the loss of two of our firefighters in Alcorcón and wish for a swift recovery for the injured," stated a representative from the Delegation of the Government in Madrid on social media.
