Complaints Against Nacho Cano Resurface Amid Allegations of Illegal Detention

Lesly Ochoa seeks reopening of her case against the Spanish musical promoter, citing new evidence of unlawful confinement.
Lesly Ochoa, a 28-year-old Mexican dancer, has renewed her allegations against music promoter Nacho Cano, claiming she was illegally detained while working on the musical _Malinche_.

Ochoa initially accused Cano of violating foreign worker rights by employing her as an intern without a visa or permit.

Following the dismissal of her case by the Provincial Court of Madrid on April 25, Ochoa and her attorney, Alfredo Arrién, are now requesting the reopening of proceedings, asserting that new evidence suggests the possibility of illegal detention.

Ochoa claims that prior to filing her initial complaint in January 2024, she recorded a series of videos documenting the circumstances surrounding her work.

These recordings allegedly depict individuals associated with the _Malinche_ production, including security personnel who, on the orders of Roxana Drexel—Cano's operations director—prevented her from leaving the venue.

Drexel has previously publicly disparaged Ochoa, calling her a “crazy person” and “a bad person” outside the courthouse.

In her initial report to the police, Ochoa provided itineraries, WhatsApp messages, and various pieces of information regarding her working conditions.

She indicated that the dancers were lodged in shared accommodations, often four to a room, and were provided only a daily meal allowance of 10 euros at a single restaurant, with breakfast and dinner costs borne by the dancers themselves.

Financial compensation reportedly began at 300 euros per month, later increased to 500 euros, along with a weekend stipend of 20 euros.

Ochoa described a demanding rehearsal schedule, stating that dancers worked from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday to Saturday, with additional appearances on some Sundays.

She also mentioned that dancers had opportunities to earn extra income by bartending at a bar named Canalla, located near the _Malinche_ venue.

Public accounts by Ochoa have further elaborated on her experiences of mistreatment by the company directors, alleging that she was sometimes confined when attempting to communicate with her family regarding her situation.

In light of these allegations, her attorney is now pushing for the nullification of the court's previous dismissal and for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that may constitute illegal detention.
