Ryanair Reports 1.611 Billion Euro Profit Amid Record Passenger Numbers

Ryanair Reports 1.611 Billion Euro Profit Amid Record Passenger Numbers

The Irish airline painted a mixed financial picture, achieving record passenger traffic but facing lower profits due to price cuts.
Ryanair has reported a profit of 1.611 billion euros for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, marking a 16% decrease compared to the previous fiscal year.

Despite this decline in profitability, the airline surpassed the milestone of 200 million passengers, achieving a 9% increase in passenger numbers year-over-year.

The decrease in profits is attributed to the airline's strategy of reducing ticket prices by an average of 7% to stimulate demand amid rising inflationary pressures and a downturn in bookings through online travel agencies.

Total operating revenues for Ryanair reached 13.948 billion euros, a 4% increase from the previous year, while operational costs rose by 9%, totaling 12.390 billion euros.

The costs per passenger remained stable, demonstrating effective cost management despite the rising operational expenses.

Looking ahead to the next fiscal year, Ryanair projects an increase in passenger transport to 206 million, reflecting only a 3% growth.

This modest increase is due to delays in aircraft deliveries from Boeing.

However, demand for tickets for the upcoming summer season remains strong, with Ryanair reporting moderately higher fares as a result and an 85% hedging of fuel at $76 per barrel.

The airline anticipates that short-haul capacity in Europe will continue to be constrained in the coming years due to ongoing delays in deliveries from major aircraft manufacturers and engine repair issues affecting several Airbus operators.

Additionally, the airline is navigating a period of consolidation within the sector, as seen with movements such as the impending sale of TAP.

Ryanair asserts that its competitive cost advantage, robust financial position, fleet of fuel-efficient aircraft, and operational resilience will facilitate profitable growth, with an ambitious target of reaching 300 million passengers annually by the fiscal year 2034. The airline's current fleet comprises 618 aircraft, including 181 Boeing 737 'Gamechanger' models known for lower emissions and reduced fuel consumption.

Furthermore, Ryanair plans to introduce over 160 new routes in the summer of 2025, extending its total network to 2,600 connections.
