Eurozone Unemployment Rate Falls to Historic Low of 6.1% in February 2025

The unemployment rate in the Eurozone has reached a new record low, with significant declines observed across the European Union.
The unemployment rate in the Eurozone decreased by 0.1 percentage points in February 2025, reaching a historic low of 6.1%, according to data released by Eurostat.

In the wider European Union (EU), the unemployment rate also fell by 0.1 percentage points, settling at 5.7%.

Year-on-year comparisons indicate a reduction in unemployment by 0.4 percentage points in both the Eurozone and the EU compared to February 2024.

Eurostat estimated that in February 2025, approximately 12.67 million individuals were unemployed within the EU, with around 10.58 million of those in the Eurozone.

Compared to January 2025, unemployment decreased by 131,000 across the EU and by 70,000 in the Eurozone.

In the year leading up to February 2025, unemployment declined by 643,000 individuals in both the Eurozone and the EU.

Spain recorded the highest unemployment rate among EU member states in February 2025, showing a rate of 10.4%, down from 10.5% in January and significantly lower than 11.8% in February 2024. Following Spain, Sweden (9%), Finland (8.8%), and Greece (8.6%) reported the highest unemployment rates in the EU.

Conversely, Poland reported the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6%, followed by the Czech Republic and Malta at 2.7% each, Slovenia at 3.2%, and Bulgaria and Ireland at 3.9% each.

Germany’s unemployment rate stood at 3.5%.

Among individuals under the age of 25, unemployment in the Eurozone rose by 0.1 percentage points from January to February, reaching 14.2%.

In contrast, for the EU, the youth unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 14.5%.

Compared to February 2024, youth unemployment fell by 0.6 percentage points in the Eurozone and by 0.4 percentage points across the EU.

In February 2025, approximately 2.8 million people under 25 were unemployed in the EU, with 2.27 million in the Eurozone.

Spain also reported the highest youth unemployment rate at 25.5%, which increased by 0.2 percentage points from January but decreased from 27.5% in February 2024. Other countries with high youth unemployment included Sweden (25.1%), Luxembourg (21.8%), Portugal (20.9%), and Finland (20%).

Regarding gender disparities, the unemployment rate for women in the EU was 6.0% in February, unchanged from January, while the rate for men fell to 5.5%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points.

In the Eurozone, the unemployment rate for women remained at 6.4%, while the rate for men decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 5.9%.

In Spain, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points for both men (to 9.2% in February) and women (to 11.6%).
