King Felipe VI Awards Inclusive Education Project in Granada

The Special Education School Purísima Concepción receives the Princess of Girona School Award 2023 for its exemplary project in inclusive education.
The Special Education School Purísima Concepción in Granada hosted a significant ceremony on Thursday, as it received the Princess of Girona School Award 2023 from the Princess of Girona Foundation for its exemplary project focused on inclusive education.

King Felipe VI attended the event, observing firsthand the innovative methodologies implemented to foster the comprehensive development of students and cater to diverse learning needs.

During this visit, students Alejandro, Alba, Nacho, and Javi took to the stage to accept the award from the King, who emphasized the crucial role of dedicated educators in building a more inclusive and equitable society.

The King was escorted through various specialized classrooms as part of the CeRa (Specialized Center of Reference and Support) project, which illustrates how the school supports students in achieving their personal cognitive and motor challenges.

Among the facilities visited was the Halotherapy room, where therapy involving the inhalation of salt microparticles is conducted in a controlled environment that mimics natural salt mine conditions.

Another part of the visit included the Hydrotherapy room, which utilizes water's therapeutic properties to enhance mobility, muscle strength, balance, and coordination.

The King also toured the Black Light Classroom, designed to stimulate sensory experiences using ultraviolet light to enhance curiosity and sensory processing capabilities.

Additionally, he learned about the Independent Living Workshop, aimed at preparing students for greater autonomy, and the Circular Economy Workshop, which promotes sustainability through material reuse and recycling initiatives.

During the event, His Majesty unveiled a canvas created by students using recycled materials, depicting a replica of a photograph of the Royal Family.

Musical performances were provided by the group Música Desde Dentro, composed of former students of the CeRa Purísima Concepción, along with two artists from the Princess of Girona Foundation's 'Generación Arte' program, who shared songs to promote emotional well-being.

The day's activities culminated in a joint performance of the song "Vuelvo a Granada" by the renowned Granada singer-songwriter Miguel Ríos.

Accompanying King Felipe VI were several dignitaries, including Pilar Alegría, Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports; Juanma Moreno, President of the Junta de Andalucía; Jesús Aguirre, President of the Parliament of Andalucía; and other local authorities and representatives from the Princess of Girona Foundation, including its President Francisco Belil and Director Salvador Tasqué.

The educational project at the Purísima Concepción School operates under the motto "Soy capaz, soy protagonista" (I am capable, I am the protagonist) and builds its educational framework on the integral development of individuals.

The center champions inclusive education as a fundamental right that guarantees identity, dignity, and well-being, positioning it as a vital tool for achieving equality of opportunity.

In its classrooms, the school enhances diversity through innovative methodologies that promote competencies and challenges for students, encouraging them to take an active role in their lives, connect with peers, and participate meaningfully in their social, educational, and family environments, regardless of their support needs.

Additionally, the school has developed various software applications aimed at improving essential skills such as executive functioning, motor and sensory development, attention, memory, language, reading, and mathematical knowledge.
