PP of Málaga and Cádiz Forge Alliance to Demand Government Investment

PP of Málaga and Cádiz Forge Alliance to Demand Government Investment

Provincial leaders unite to address perceived neglect in infrastructure funding from the Sánchez administration.
In a strategic alliance, the People's Party (PP) representatives from the provinces of Málaga and Cádiz have come together to advocate for increased government investment in key infrastructure projects.

During a meeting held on May 26, 2025, PP Málaga president Patricia Navarro and PP Cádiz president Bruno García articulated their joint concerns over what they describe as a significant lack of investment from the government led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

They have called attention to an alleged funding deficit affecting the region of Andalucía.

Navarro emphasized the 'infinite potential' of both provinces, asserting that current governmental neglect is stifling their development.

She stated that the tax revenue collected over two years in Málaga could finance all necessary investments for the province, highlighting concerns over a perceived commitment deficit from the Sánchez administration, particularly as it relates to Andalucía's electoral support for the government since Juanma Moreno assumed the presidency of the regional Junta.

The leaders also directed criticism at María Jesús Montero, the Minister of Finance, accusing her of acting contrary to the interests of her own constituents in Andalucía. Navarro criticized Montero for failing to produce updated budgets and for not advocating for a fair financing system for Andalucía, Cádiz, and Málaga, alleging misallocation of resources towards regions such as Catalonia, which she attributes to political agreements sustaining Sánchez's position in the Moncloa.

Financial grievances were also highlighted, with Navarro mentioning that the government collects over €5.5 billion annually from Málaga while the province suffers from a €12 billion investment shortfall.

On the topic of mobility, Navarro noted the absence of highway toll reductions in Málaga, contrasting this with measures implemented in regions like Galicia, Alicante, and Castilla y León. She argued that such exemptions could facilitate greater connectivity between Málaga and Cádiz and address significant grievances against the central government.

Further, Navarro raised issues regarding public safety, indicating that both provinces face threats from criminal organizations and drug trafficking, which pose risks to their attractiveness as tourist destinations.

She argued that the absence of adequate security hampers economic growth and development.

Water supply issues were similarly discussed, with Navarro referring to the Gibralmedina reservoir project as essential for the agricultural sectors of both provinces.

She pointed out that this project is part of the €2 billion in hydraulic works that remain unexecuted, despite being under government jurisdiction.

In terms of transportation, the PP leaders previously collaborated to advocate for a coastal train linking Costa del Sol to Algeciras.

They requested the central government to allocate appropriate budget resources for this critical infrastructure project in upcoming state accounts.

Despite their efforts, progress on the coastal train project remains stagnant, highlighting the ongoing challenges in securing necessary government support for regional development.
