Spanish Prosecutor Requests Supreme Court Investigation into Alvise Pérez's Party Finances

Spanish Prosecutor Requests Supreme Court Investigation into Alvise Pérez's Party Finances

Investigations initiated over alleged illegal campaign financing linked to European Parliament election.
The Spanish Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court has called for an inquiry into the finances of Se Acabó La Fiesta (SALF), the electoral party led by Alvise Pérez, who secured three seats in the European Parliament during the 2024 elections.

The Prosecutor believes that the party may have engaged in electoral offenses and illegal financing of political parties.

Given Pérez's position as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), he enjoys parliamentary immunity, meaning that only the Supreme Court has the authority to investigate and summon him for questioning.

Currently, the Audiencia Nacional is investigating businessman Álvaro Romillo for alleged fraud.

Romillo has confessed to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office that he delivered €100,000 in cash to Alvise Pérez to finance his electoral campaign.

In return, Romillo expected Pérez to promote and defend his business interests within the European Parliament once he assumed office.

The allegations are supported by correspondence exchanged between Romillo and Pérez, which Romillo submitted to the Anti-Corruption unit.

In light of this, the Audiencia Nacional has submitted a detailed report to the Supreme Court, highlighting evidence against Pérez and requesting investigations into both alleged offenses.

The Supreme Court's Prosecutor's Office is now proposing that the Criminal Chamber conduct an investigation against Pérez and, by extension, against Romillo.

Additionally, the Prosecutor has suggested an examination of the cryptocurrency wallets that received anonymous donations benefiting SALF's campaign, along with a request for Pérez to provide payment justifications for these donations.

They are also seeking an analysis of the bank accounts of both Pérez and his party throughout 2024.

Following Romillo's confession and the revelation of their communications, Alvise Pérez acknowledged receipt of the €100,000 in cash through a video on his social media platforms.

However, he characterized the funds as 'fees' for alleged 'services rendered without invoice.' He further incited his followers to evade taxes, labeling the tax authority as a 'mafia.'
